The rainbow fish and his friends5/23/2023 Paris may be its center but the broader region surrounding the capital in north-central France includes iconic forests and landmarks - Versailles, the chateau and forest in Fontainebleau, the Basilica of Saint-Denis - as well as exciting meals just beyond the portes. So if you’re planning to launch from Paris to check out the cultural highlights, monuments, and natural landscapes that lay beyond city limits, make sure to include stops - for a day, an overnight stay, or a full weekend - at some of France’s most stunning restaurants and guesthouses. You’d miss out on some truly compelling food experiences only a short drive or train ride away. Paris could satisfy any diner’s hunger and curiosity pretty much forever, but it’s a mistake to limit yourself to eating in the capital exclusively.

Heinrich harrer 7 years in tibet5/22/2023 I don't give a shit! Haven't you ever heard of a principle? This is junk from some Italian prisoners. 'If I had a watch like that I would trade it.' You do not have one, you cheap, lying bastard! You have three! It reminds me of what you said at the bazaar back there. Know what time it is? You think I'm so happy to be travelling with you I should pay for it? You're such a big man that you don't need to contribute? I can't even imagine how to picture the world without him in it. When I sit beside you he is there with me. It's not a conscious thought really, Kundun. You've been much too informal to me for that. And I've never thought of you as my father. So work hard and seek your own salvation constantly.' I am not your son. It demands strenuous effort and practise. The Buddha said 'Salvation doesn't come from the sight of me. How can I help people if I run away from them? What kind of leader would I be? I have to stay here, Heinrich. We should leave directly after the enthronement, the Chinese won't expect it. Forgive my presumption but I have made arrangements to get you out safely.

Sartre on being5/22/2023 Next, Sartre talks about how people deceive themselves. Sartre argues that nothingness cannot exist independently from an existing whole because it must be thought into existence by the mind. But this blindness is essential to who they are and helps define them as a person. For example, if someone were blind, they would have no sight. Sartre’s first argument is on the “origin of negation.” Nothingness can be considered a concept that exists in relation to some extant whole. We can’t just say things exist without showing how we know this. However, there is a recent movement in philosophy that rejects dualism by focusing more on what we can actually experience. He critiques phenomenologists, such as Husserl and Heidegger, because they are too focused on empiricism. Sartre starts off the passage by saying that he will talk about consciousness and how it comes to be. In this book, he says that people construct themselves through aspiring to emulate their models of being. He was influenced by Martin Heidegger’s book “Being and Time”, but he disagreed with it. Jean-Paul Sartre’s philosophical work “Being and Nothingness” argues that an individual’s existence precedes his essence, which comes from the ontological bedrock of the former. 1-Page Summary of Being And Nothingness Overall Summary

A brief history of time book review5/22/2023 Along the way, Orzel visits the delicate negotiations involved in Gregorian calendar reform, the intricate and entirely unique system employed by the Maya, and how the problem of synchronizing clocks at different locations ultimately required us to abandon the idea of time as an absolute and universal quantity. Ancient solstice markers depend on the basic astrophysics of our solar system mechanical clocks owe their development to Newtonian physics and the ultra-precise atomic timekeeping that enables GPS hinges on the predictable oddities of quantum mechanics. Chad Orzel, a physicist and bestselling author, continues his tradition of demystifying thorny scientific concepts by using the clocks and calendars central to our everyday activities as a jumping-off point to explore the science underlying the ways we keep track of our time. Predating written language and marching on through human history, the desire for ever-better timekeeping has spurred technological innovation and sparked theories that radically reshaped our understanding of the universe and our place in it.

The Stepford Wives by Ira Levin5/22/2023 Characterisation of women from male authors is something that is often easy to detect – as is often done badly. It is interesting to note that Ira Levin, if you did not know, is a man. Joanna does not understand why none of the housewives ever want to socialise, and why their excuse is always that they have too much housework or cleaning to do. Joanna and her family move to a new area in Connecticut (Stepford in County Fairfield), but she soon starts to suspect that the housewives may actually be robots that have been created by their husbands. The narrative follows of the life of Joanna Eberhart, a photographer and young mother. At the time of publication, it was also a comment of the conservatives’ attack on women’s liberation, which was a new and growing trend. Regardless of the fact that The Stepford Wives was published in 1972, it still feels extremely modern and reflective of current issues – particularly the feminist struggle of today. This satirical thriller is exceptionally short – most people could probably get through it in a day – but the layers of meaning, still relevant today, are what sticks with you. The Stepford Wives is a phrase that is so well known that many people may not even realise that it originates from a novel.
